Social Action

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.

And what does the Lord require of you?

To act justly and to love mercy

and to walk humbly with your God

– Micah 6:8 NIV

The church was born out of a mission group charged with taking care of the educational and social needs of recently freed slaves. Therefore, in honor of our heritage and in response to our calling, the Board of Social Action assists the church in confronting issues of injustice and alienation in society and works with local organizations when appropriate.

Show Some Love

Consider joining Bread for the World in their efforts to combat hunger in all corners of the globe.

Lincoln Temple was one of the founding members of the Downtown Cluster of Congregations who help the cities homeless population.

Our book and shoe drives were very successful and we cant wait to do it again. Books were distributed to prison libraries throughout the U.S. Please not that there is a need for Spanish and Chinese language soft covered books and we hope to collect more books in general next time. Shoes were sent to Terracycle who distributed them to places all over the world where footwear is hard to find.

Periodically we hold a canned/boxed food drive. During our garden’s growing season there is a chance for fresh produce as well. Contact us for more details.

Open and Affirming:
www.gaychurch.org is a web site dedicated to ministering to the gay and lesbian Christian community (GLBT) and to the friends of our community. The site features the largest gay/lesbian affirming Christian church directory in the world. The site includes a large section of articles dedicated to helping a gay person reconcile their faith with their sexual orientation and a web magazine with articles on a wide range of subjects. Articles and features are offered in English as well as Spanish. In addition there is an online art gallery which meditatively focuses on various scriptures in the Bible. Check the site often as new material is added on an almost daily basis.

Lincoln Temple helped to establish Shaw Community Ministry and is currently the home of its after school program.
